What is a system ? At its most fundamental level, a system is a set of interacting or interdependent components that form a unified, complex whole. A system is defined by its boundary, its structure (the elements and their relationships), and its behavior or purpose (how it processes inputs to produce outputs).

The core principle of any system is emergence: the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. For example, a pile of bicycle parts is just a heap; assembled correctly, they form a transportation system.
